Broan NuTone returned to Auburn the semester following the medicine cabinet project to sponsor ceiling fan development. My focus was on creating functionally innovative products, without compromising aesthetics. The collection included designs aimed towards allergies and ease of cleaning debris, customization and personalization, as well as energy efficiency. The concept aimed at energy efficiency was selected for final development during the semester.

Named Citron, the fan’s light kit is separated from the motor housing, and contains a metal pan that holds wax beans. The heat of the lights melt the beans, and the circulation created by the blades spread the aroma further than traditional candles can. This is a simple, clean, and efficient way to repel insects, and can be used indoors for fragrances. Safe for children since there is no flame – and there is even a bean bucket to drop beans in the fan if at a high distance. The beans also create a consumable for the company, which also promotes brand identity.
